How to stay safe during joti

Follow these few basic rules to help stay safe online this weekend during joti.

  1. Never tell anyone your name, where you live, where you go to school, etc.

Stuff like "I live in Yorkshire in the UK" is ok, but don't tell people your postcode, street or anything like that. Also never tell people online your full name, your first name is fine, but never your full name.

  1. Only talk to people on the scoutlink network

Don't talk to anyone outside of the scoutlink network. This includes not emailing people, not joining their discord server, or anything like that. Remember you can always come back to scoutlink throughout the year and talk to the people you meet this weekend.

  1. Don't share or accept social media or invites to other platforms

Don't share or accept any social media invites, or join any other communication platforms (like discord). Remember scoutlink is designed to keep you safe, and we have people who are dedicated to keeping this network safe. If you take it away from scoutlink, we can't help you.

  1. Always have an adult with you when you are online

This one might seem a bit odd, but always have an adult close to you when you are online, even when on scoutlink. This is so that if anything does happen, you have someone to help you sort it out straight away.
